Hair Growth & Laser Hair Removal:
Citrine MedSpa is dedicated to understanding and educating patients on how laser hair removal works, which allows patients to receive the most from their sessions. Our painless laser hair removal device, Motus AY, has both 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd: Yag wavelengths to target hair follicles.
The Three Phases of Hair Growth Cycle:
- The first is the anagen phase, also known as the growth phase. This is the phase when the synthesis of hair takes place.
- The second is the catagen phase or resting phase. This brief intermediate phase occurs between the first and third phases.
- The third phase is the telogen phase, or the dormant phase. The hair bulb is no longer present during this phase.
What phase do hair follicles react to the laser?
Hair will only respond to the laser during the anagen phase because that is the phase where the hair follicle itself is in connection with the blood supply. The energy from the laser hair removal device is attracted to the melanin (pigment) in the hair and heats the hair, its follicle and the blood. supply at the same time. which is what leads to the destruction of that particular follicle. The goal of each laser hair removal session is for the laser to reach the depth of the hair follicle during the anagen phase. Even the best laser hair removal technology on the market only allows approximately 20% of hairs to be targeted with laser energy. because that is the proportion of active follicles at any given time. Therefore, it will take more than just one session to see 80-90% hair reduction. There is no laser existing laser on the market that will be able to target inactive hair follicles, so there is no way to get around. needing multiple sessions of laser hair removal.

It is important to also keep in mind that if. you are not having regrowth yet, then it is not time for your next treatment!
