The Snatched Jawline: One of the Newest Trends in Aesthetic Medicine

You may have seen this term floating around social media over the last several months as it has gained significant popularity. So what exactly is a “snatched jawline”?

This is simply referring to a jawline that is more defined and is accomplished by using various types of hyaluronic acid fillers, neurotoxins and in some cases, adipose dissolving injections (Kybella) to create a more defined or “snatched” jawline.

Jawline filler is performed in both males and females and can be done at various ages as well.   Sometimes young patients genetically have a poorly defined jawline.   As we age, we lose some of the bone structure  in our face and jawline, which can create a more heavy, jowling appearance to the lower face.

Specific types of hyaluronic acid fillers such as Volux (the newest approved filler for the jawline), RHA 4, Restlyane Lyft and Radiesse can be used in the jawline to create more definition.  It is also important to note that a snatched, defined jawline may also require appropriate structure and volume to be placed in the cheeks, temples and chin for an overall balanced effect.  It is also important to understand the difference between a male and female jawline.

If injected incorrectly, a female can become more square and actually have an older appearance by creating more of a male silhouette.   The same can happen for males; a rounded , a feminine type of definition in the jawline can give the opposite effect of a youthful, strong male jawline.  This is why choosing an experienced injector for jawline filler (or any filler) is extremely important.

Neurotoxins such as BOTOX, Daxxify, Dysport,& Jeuveau can also be used in combination with fillers to create that SNATCHED LOOK.   Relaxing the muscular contractions of the masseters, lower face and neck all have a positive effect on the jawline.  These muscles work to pull and move everything in a downward motion, therefore relaxation of these specific muscles can help give a tightened, lifted look.

Individuals who clench and grind their teeth typically have very strong masseter muscles which can create a square appearance to the jawline in females.  Injections of neurotoxin into this muscle can not only relieve pain but help to give a more defined jawline.

Kybella is an injectable medication that we will use in some patients to dissolve unwanted fat in the jowl or beneath the chin to also aid in a defined, snatched jawline.  A few sessions are needed and it is important that your provider properly evaluate your skin prior to treatment to ensure you are a candidate.

A combination approach is typically what is needed for most patients to achieve that snatched jawline of their dreams.  We would love to discuss your goals with you and develop a comprehensive plan to best suit your needs!
