5 Myths about Laser Hair Removal

  • Laser Hair Removal is Painful.

Thankfully in 2024, laser hair removal doesn’t have to be painful like it previously was. Technology has advanced to provide effective and pain free laser hair removal sessions. There is no longer the need to ice before and after sessions or even hold a stress ball. Citrine Med Spa offers a safe and painless hair removal experience.

  • Patients with Dark Skin Tones Can’t Receive Laser Hair Removal.

Laser hair removal can now be performed on patients with all skin types. This used to be the truth, but with newer devices and technology, patients with darker skin tones can be safely treated.

  • Laser Hair Removal Isn’t Permanent

Laser hair removal IS a permanent hair removal solution, unlike waxing.  The hairs that are destroyed with the laser will never grow back. Laser hair removal does require some maintenance to maintain results, but this is minimal and not very often.

  • It Only Takes One Session to Remove All the Hair

On average, it takes 6-8 sessions to see an 80% overall reduction in hair. The laser is only able to target hair in the active growth phase, so more than one treatment is needed to do this. Hairs will begin to grow slower and thinner after just one treatment!

  • Patients Can Have Laser Treatments Immediately Following Sun Exposure

It is not safe or best practice to laser over skin that has recent sun exposure. There are many risks that can result from not following this laser standard. Patients must try to maintain their natural skin tone throughout treatments. If sun exposure occurs, SPF must be worn and wait 2 weeks to treat with laser following the sun exposure.
